Loves on a Thursday

One of the unfortunate things about being a student is the lack of good fiction in my life. For the last four years, I've hardly picked up anything besides a textbook, and those I've attempted to tackle typically sit around unfinished. I'm a lover of books through and through, so my to-read list keeps getting longer and my bookshelf is practically popping at the seams with unread literature gifted from my holiday/birthday list.

While the boys have Kindles (and love them), I am a die-hard book reader. I like the smell, the turning of the pages, and the way they look on the shelf. I like the participation involved in reading an actual book. It's an experience. Plus, our house would be sooo boring without our bookshelves! The only exception was Fifty Shades of Grey. That went on the iPad.

I can't wait to enjoy books again. Without the guilt of knowing that I'm ignoring a big assignment or getting busy halfway through and letting the antagonist down. They want me to know how things turn out.

I told my husband that after graduation I need to rent a cabin in the middle of nowhere, get snowed in, and spend a solid week reading. In the meantime, I've rounded up some photos that remind me of that unparallelled feeling that comes with getting lost in a great book.

As I mentioned before, my to-do list is really long in the book department. Here are a few I'm itching to get my hands on:

  • Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn (I just got it for my birthday last week!)
  • This is Where I Leave You: A Novel by Jonathan Tropper (I'm about 1/4 of the way through this one and look at it with remorse when I spy it on my nightstand every night. What I've read so far is amazing. It's real, raw, and sooo interesting)
  • Bossypants by Tina Fey (I picked this up prior to taking my son to a play structure for the afternoon. I wanted something entertaining and lighthearted to read. I laughed out loud. In public. I haven't picked it up again...but I've been tempted to abandon my homework and read it)
  • The Likeness by Tana French (I read Into the Woods, her first book, and couldn't put it down. This followup has been taunting me from the bookshelf for a year)
  • Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen (Am I the only one who hasn't read this? Another bookshelf taunter)
  • The Explosive Child by Ross W. Greene (Okay, so my child isn't "explosive." But he's a challenge sometimes. Or a lot of times. Don't be fooled by the name...this book is for almost every parent, whether your kiddo is difficult or not. It has been recommended to me a thousand times over and I must get on it. I usually roll my eyes and discard most parenting books ten pages in, but this one is pretty awesome. Well, what I've read so far)
