but of men, women, an occasional animal, and the common cold.

I'm not a superstitious person in general. But I do *knock on wood*. In fact, my last car had a faux wood panel that ran along the door and I swear one little spot had worn down from all the times I rapped my knuckle on it after thinking, "I haven't gotten a speeding ticket in years" or " traffic seems to be flowing nicely". Because it totally works.

So what was I thinking when I failed to giving the lab bench a little tap after a conversation with a fellow student about whether or not to get a flu shot? Especially after ending with "I've never had the flu and I don't get the flu shot every year"? Or how about after that rude girl coughed in my face in the Student Center? Not even then? What is wrong with me?!

While I don't have the flu, the gods couldn't let me get away with such blatant taunting. Sure enough, I woke up with that all-too-familiar ache in my throat on Friday. And it has only gone downhill from there. My weekend has been divided into four hour segments based on when I can devour my next doses of Sudafed and ibuprofen. And I'm not playing around here. I went for the good stuff. The kind you have to swear on your left kidney that you won't make crack out of.

Husband left for his year-end company meeting in sunny SoCal, and I'm chilling with Kiddo all by my lonesome. He took twenty minutes to put on pants this morning, but I had to let it go. Nothing but a wheeze comes out of my mouth when I try to talk. Fingers crossed that this bad boy says goodbye by tomorrow. If not, well, at least my finals aren't verbal.

Here's my weekend in photos:

P.S. When picking up more Sudafed at Walgreens, I caved and got the flu shot. That's the viral equivalent to knocking on wood. Besides, I don't need more bad juju.

P.P.S. I want some of these:

It's like not even wearing a mask at all.
