Am I the only one that could quote that movie word for word? I must have seen it a thousand times...and will likely watch it a thousand more. You're probably thinking "A post about chocolate? Wahoo!"
No, silly! Cabbage. We had several heads sitting in the bottom of our fridge, holdouts from this summer's farm share. In an attempt to use 'em before we'd lose 'em, I went where everyone goes when they have excess veg: Pinterest. Duh.
There are a lot of delicious-looking recipes like the one above. I took a rather simplistic approach by throwing a little of this and a little of that into a foil packet containing a wedge of cabbage. These are my favorites:
- Worcestershire sauce (1-2 tbsp)
- Crumbled, cooked bacon
- Lemon juice (1-2 tbsp)
- Blue, feta, or goat cheese
- Salt and pepper
- Seasoning salt
- Olive oil

I'm not a huge cabbage person, aside from raw in a chopped salad, but I can get behind this. It's a simple, tasty side dish or light dinner, perfect for those days where you overcompensated for the fact that Twinkie has gone kaput by ordering and consuming a case purchased for $700 on Ebay. Just me? Okay.
Throw on your desired ingredients, fold foil around it, and bake at 375 degrees for 30 minutes or so. You might need to play around with the time and temp depending on how crunchy or soft you like it. Bon appétit!

ReplyDeleteI have never really thought of having cabbage as a main part of a meal- normally it's just the bit of the Christmas dinner that I leave on the plate! But the cabbage and bacon looks yummy. I might be cooking it soon! x
