I am always late on principle,

my principle being that punctuality is the thief of time.

For the second week in a row, I am acknowledging the wonder that is Friday when it is nearly over. Oh, well.

Let me start by saying that this was an intense week. Mario's work schedule has officially worn me out, and I'm ready to have my husband home again. I'm an independent woman who can tackle just about anything that comes up in his absence, but there is a big different between can and want. Having to juggle everything solo for the last two months has left me a frazzled mess, and I am craving a regular schedule right about now. A couple more weeks and we should be back to normal.

In the spirit of seeing the brighter side of things, below are some 'happies' from the week. High five for friday, indeed.

1. An apple a day... Mario discovered a new type of apple and raved about it for days. Jared spied them at Whole Foods and we stocked up. They really are amazing! Is it weird to get excited about limited edition fruit?
2. A great day and some great eats... Jared was on break from school this week. On Wednesday I have just one class, so with the exception of a couple hours, we spent the day hanging out together. I let him sleep in, then we made Strawberry French Toast together. Dinner was Turkey Burgers with grilled asparagus followed by Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Trolls. Jared formed the dough into balls, and I love how his little finger marks were left behind. I live for days like that with Little Man.

3. A few good things... I am so thankful for Starbucks' Chai Tea. It gives me that little boost of caffeine, but without the jitters that amplify my anxiety. Their traditional Chai Latte is too sweet for me, so I invented something called a Chai Tea Misto. I'm sure others have thought of this, but I was happy to have discovered my perfect drink several years ago. It's half brewed hot tea and half soy milk. It grew on me, and now it is my go-to drink.

My gallery wall is up! Yay! After hanging it, and taking this photo, I discovered Society 6 and just had to order two more prints that caught my eye. I am planning a post with links to the art and the method I used, but I'm pleased as punch that it worked out. It is true love.

Kiddo is enamored with his lava lamp. He insists on using it as a nightlight, but Mario and I are trying to wean him off as it is a bit bright. I forgot how cool they are. I have caught myself staring at the rhythmically moving blobs several times this week.

4. A hurdle overcome... I made it through my first round of exams this week. That is always a milestone I am eager to get past. I have never taken a class from my two professors so I was unsure what to expect. One of my professors is also my mentor/research instructor, and an all-around amazing woman, so I feel a lot of pressure to make her proud. Hopefully my lucky charms served me well. Now I finally feel in my last semester.

5. A beauty plunge... No, I haven't been living under a rock. I have heard all about shellac polish. I simply shied away from the commitment and acetone soak removal. A nail-biter since childhood, I kicked the habit several years ago while I was working to kick my anxiety. Occasionally when things get stressful, my old vice rears its ugly head. As has been the case lately. I thought this might be the perfect fix. The second photo makes it look like I have nubs for nails, but they really aren't quite that bad. I love the grey color and I will be interested to see how long they last and what the removal process is like. I haven't nibbled once this afternoon...

I hope you are all enjoying your Friday evening. May they be spent with friends, family, and elastic waist pants.

  2. I couldn't imagine having to go months without my hubby. I start to miss him after one day.

And I, too, am a nail bitter. Stress definitely doesn't help quitting the habit either. I haven't heard of shellac polish before, but now that I have it seems worth looking into. I like the look of nail polish but not the time it takes to keep it nice looking.

    1. I'm with you on polish. I rarely have time to sit down, do a good job, THEN let it dry. And it usually only lasts a couple days. I'm hoping this will stay nice AND help me stop gnawing at my tips.

  3. The food you made looks absolutely amazing! So hungry seeing it haha and sounds like a fun mother-son day :)

  4. Yum all the food looks awesome. :)

  5. Oh gosh that food looks so yummy!!

I have never heard of Kiku apples- I'll on the look out now =)

  6. Enjoying your stories, quotes, photos.... happy to be following you back!
