I like this place and could willingly waste my time in it.

William Shakespeare

We took a rather aimless drive last Saturday. It was feeling like the right time to head in the direction of home when we came across this field of wildflowers on the side of the highway. It was about 1/4 mile long but while standing in the midst of it, it felt like it went on forever and ever. Surrounded by the changing colors of fall, it stood out like a bright, colorful spring-like beacon. It was the most ethereal of places. We spent a half hour photographing and wandering through it. Then we left, feeling our day was complete.

Where did you come from? Who planted you? Perhaps I'd rather not know.

  2. Beautiful! In years past there have been areas along the local highway where the Dept of Transportation or Dept of Highways (who knows what they are called these days) would plant sections of wildflowers then shove a sign in it saying something to the effect "planted wildflowers" and down the road where the wildflowers grew naturally, they would shove a sign in it saying "natural wildflowers" cause it was so freaking important to make the distinction. I think they missed the point of the beauty of wildflowers - no sign necessary.

    Beautiful pictures.

    1. Thanks, Nicki! The sign thing made me laugh... that's government for you. :) It really was a beautiful, surprising place. You summed it up perfectly.
