Into the Mist

As I mentioned yesterday, the weather in New England has been crazy the last week. It simply can't make up its mind. A rather frazzled me took Kiddo to his skiing lessons on Wednesday evening, and it unexpectedly became the escape I needed.

From the time we woke up that morning, I could barely see the hand in front of my face. Driving in it was a little stressful at times, but it was eerily beautiful...like the landscape needed to close its eyes for a day.

While Jared navigated his way around the slopes with his instructor, I took the free time to experiment with my new camera. Even though I got it for Christmas, I have decided to keep calling it 'new' until I've figured it out to my satisfaction. I just realized that could be a while. Because everything was so foggy anyway, I let the camera autofocus, then switched to manual and experimented with the fine focus. I liked how I could create shapes rather than crisp outlines and glowing orbs instead of lights.

I met another mom, chatted, snapped away, and overall really enjoyed myself. I'm learning to identify and enjoy those little moments of respite from the hustle and bustle of the everyday. Until it started pouring rain at the end. Then, rather awkwardly, I ran inside with my camera under my sweater. It was really attractive, I'm sure.
