are those which love color the most.

John Ruskin

I thoroughly enjoyed this set but, as has often been the case lately, I waited until Saturday to photograph all the prompts. I can tell that I am feeling spring right about now, as I found myself gravitating toward bright colors and things that were nature-made for this week's photos.

Red

It's a red...orange. See what I did here? We picked up some blood oranges from Whole Foods the other day and I decided to have one for breakfast. They are both weird and wondrous...nature sure is fascinating. And delicious.

Orange

I stopped by the ski mountain to take some photos of the boys and these poles immediately caught my eye from the rack. Even looking at them now, the vibrant colors immediately brings about a certain cheeriness.

Yellow

This was my last color left, so I brought my camera with me into the grocery store last night. Just inside the main doors, next to the carts, was a rack of flowers. I snapped away and didn't need to bother the bananas or lemons.

Green

This is actually an avocado seed we did the old toothpicks-suspending-it-in-a-jar-of-water trick on. Something about our well water makes plants grow like magic...in less than a year, this guy has grown over 18" tall and now has a second tree growing out of the seed. We've always had an avocado pit on our window sill, but never one quite like this.

Blue

Kiddo at breakfast yesterday wearing one of his favorite shirts and sporting bedhead. We had a great breakfast and laughed a lot. Especially after Mario bumped the lady in the seat behind him then followed with a "Sorry, Sir". He literally added insult to injury. To be fair, she had really short hair and was wearing a cap, but he was obviously embarrassed. Of course, Jared and I had to razz him a bit. That's a woman?! (if you haven't seen The Lorax, stop right now and do so), It's a man baby yeah! and every other movie reference we could think of ensued. This photo is Jared in a little photographic nutshell.

As I mentioned about a week ago, I bought a new camera strap cover. It is so adorable and the little pockets have saved me from losing yet another lens cap. You can see more of Rachel's creations at The Poppy Shoppe on Etsy. I contacted her to tell her I loved my strap and wanted to give her a shout-out on my blog. She immediately offered to do a giveaway! My first! So in next Sunday's post I will be raffling off a camera strap of the winner's choice from her store. I'm excited!

Happy Sunday Everyone!

  2. I'm not a fruit fan, but that first shot is great, and much better than it would have been with an orange orange, if you know what I mean. Bed head-imagine if we adults could just go with the flow like that? I've been called sir before as I have short hair and dress in blue jeans a lot. I think it's more embarrassing for the "sayer" than the one who has been mis-labeled. Tell you boy that she forgot about it a long time ago. Happy day to you.

  3. Nice finds for this week's words. Sounds like a fun breakfast and I'm sure Mr./Ms. got pass the confusion. Liking the whole bed-head look there.

Gonna pop over and check out the straps.

  4. Fun set! I have never had a blood orange either. I love citrus fruits, so I may have to try one sometime.

    Love your blue shot too.

  6. A friend of mine and I were discussing the old toothpicks-suspending-the-avocado-in-a-jar-of-water trick the other day. It didn't work for him, but I had never heard of such a thing before and wanted to research it. I immediately forgot to do so (Had a "what was I going to Google again?" moment). Thanks for the reminder.
    OH, and great photos :)

    1. Hi Erin! I have those moments all the time! :) We have had two avocados grow into trees since we've lived here...our water is very mineral-rich, so there must be something in there they love. Although we could never plant it outdoors in New England, it's fun to have something green on the windowsill.

  7. Beautiful photos! I've tried the avocado thing about six times through my life and they never grow. I'm completely jealous of yours.

Thanks for stopping by my blog. :)

    1. Hi Peg! We usually get a little growth, then they fizzle out. The last two have turned into trees. It's pretty amazing!

  8. These are lovely shots. I especially like the last one of your son - and my kids love the Lorax, so yes, I know that line and we have used it in very similar circumstances :) It's so hard to get nice shots of the kids as they get older and less compliant, well done!

    1. Thanks, Jane! I'm glad to hear we aren't the only ones that use that line regularly. We chuckle every time...it never gets old. :)
