Fall-ing in Love All Over Again

“I cannot endure to waste anything so precious as autumnal sunshine by staying in the house.”

Nathaniel Hawthorne

My husband has brought up apple-picking too many times to count over the last several days. In fact, he called our two favorite orchards and got the lowdown on what is ripe, what isn't, and what their crop yields are like this year. This morning he said, "Would you be interesting in apple picking today?" I didn't see that coming at all [sarcasm]. I love it, too, but prefer a more laid back approach as opposed to "Can we go now? How about now? Today?"

My idea of Apple picking: Getting lost amongst the beautiful fruit trees. Talking to the boys about anything and everything. Wearing galoshes and a comfy cardigan. Bliss.

Fall is my favorite season. I quite literally look forward to it all year. I was born in October. I love Halloween. I greatly enjoy the cool weather and soft, comfortable clothing. The temps are not oppressive like summer and winter. I could go on and on. Despite the stress that accompanies the fall semester, I find this season calming. So in the spirit of the impending fall season, I am posting a few favorites and some lust-worthy finds. Enjoy!

Shir Delight Outfit by Athleta
I love this look! It can have many variations, but the essence is this: boots with warm tights and a dress or skirt. Oh, and a latte in hand. It is casual, simple and yet so chic. I'm not normally a hat person, but this makes me want to become one. It pulls the whole outfit together.

Printed Cardigan by Boden
I feel like I can't go wrong when I wear a cardigan. They can tie a ho-hum outfit together, forgive a few bulges here and there, and gives you the freedom to button up or take it off when the temperature fluctuates. I own many cardigans and am always on the lookout for a unique print or style. A solid cardigan has a definite place in my wardrobe, but I live for the quirky prints. [FYI: I love this whole outfit above. I ripped this page out of the catalog and keep it in the 'caught my eye' folder. Effortless chic is my forever goal]

Seasonless Silk Comforter & Crushed Silk Quilt by Garnet Hill

I sleep so much better in autumn. This simple, mod platform bed covered in silk blankets makes me want to snuggle up with a book all day. We recently had our down comforter cleaned and are going to have to break it out of the dry cleaning bag very soon. We upgraded our old decrepit mattress to a memory foam and bought new bedroom furniture this spring. Having a comfortable yet beautiful space makes all the difference.

My favorite fall movie. It's about a group of adults who are invited back to the summer camp they went to every year as kids. It is hilarious and touching. It is in my top five for sure.

We are off to spend some time together. It will involve apples. I'll tell you all about it tomorrow.

  1. I'm with you on so much of this, just waiting for the temps to go down a little from the 90s, then I'm on board.

Thank you so much for your comment about Moonrise Kingdom. It was one of the loveliest comments I've ever received - I loved hearing about why that movie is special to you.
